Avondale Transit Study

I was asked by Maricopa Association of Governments to invite anyone interested in the future of transit service in Avondale to consider attending a community meeting.

I attended one of these a few weeks ago, and I was impressed with the forward-thinking approaches to enhancing transit in the Avondale-Goodyear area.

Zoom Transit will Likely Be Affected

If you are a current rider of the Zoom service that circulates around Avondale and connects to other transit resources, you should definitely attend, as there will likely be changes in that area.

Street Work Next Week!

April 6 thru 9, 2020

You should have received a notice from the City of Avondale and Sunland Asphalt about the street work being done in Rio Crossing next week, Monday through Thursday, April 6 thru 9.

This is important! Please read!

If you did not receive the document, I’ve scanned it an made it available… click here to download.

Important notes:

  • This is for next week – April 6 thru 9
  • Roma Avenue and streets to the south will be done Monday and Tuesday.
  • Streets north of Roma Avenue will be done Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Look carefully at the document to determine when your street will be worked on. Pay particular attention to which side of the street is being done on which day.
  • Your car will be towed if parked on the wrong side of the street. Move it before 7am.
  • If you run irrigation, it must not put water into the street. See the document for details.
  • Trash and Recycle Bins must be out at 5am!! I believe they’ll pick up early those days to be done and out of the way before the street crews arrive
  • Don’t drive on fresh street material!!

Please read the document for full details!!

Unwanted Prescription Drug Disposal Event – October 27

The Avondale Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are having an Unwanted Prescription Drug Disposal event on Saturday, October 27, from 10am to 2pm at the CVS Pharmacy at 280 N Avondale Blvd in Avondale.

Note: Even though this is a one-day special event, there are several pharmacies in Avondale and surrounding areas with unwanted/outdated prescription drop offs available every day.  Be safe, get rid of what you don’t need… find one and drop them off!

The Avondale Public Works Water Conservation Coordinator provided an announcement on NextDoor.  According to their post:

The Avondale Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are offering people the opportunity to drop off expired or unwanted prescription drugs in Avondale, as part of a national initiative to raise awareness about the dangers of prescription-drug abuse and how to dispose of the drugs properly.

The event on Saturday, October 27 will provide people a place to dispose of medication safely. Police and the DEA will hand out information on the dangers of prescription drugs and how to dispose of the drugs properly. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

All pills, capsules, tablets will be accepted, excluding glass containers. Liquid medications, inhalers, syringes or other items used to inject medication will not be accepted under current DEA guidelines. Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative.
